    Personal development is central

    Tensing has been a specialist in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Location Intelligence for over 30 years. Their goal is to deliver highly specialized advice and knowledge in the European region. To achieve this, they are scaling up significantly in the coming years, including outside the Netherlands: 15 new colleagues have already joined in the past 2 years.

    To support all employees in their career and personal development, the Tensing Talent Tracks were developed in 2018. These Talent Tracks are built from the perspective that personal development of each individual contributes to the development and growth of Tensing. It encompasses all possible roles within Tensing and includes a cycle of conversations between a career coach and a coachee.

    The challenge – A better coach-coachee relationship

    Shaping the Tensing Talent Tracks was an important first step. The next challenge was translating this into practice. Documents and templates were available for setting goals and requesting feedback, but these files were emailed back and forth, got lost, and ultimately provided insufficient input for meaningful conversations. In short, the process was time-consuming and administration was difficult to manage.

    The solution

    One thing became clear to Tensing: the need for Talent Tracks was there, but there was also a need for a system that connected to this framework. Together with Talent Specialist Milou, the following goals were set: implementing the entire Talent Tracks in the Learned platform, facilitating employee development, and making it easier and more enjoyable to develop yourself. All in one digital environment.

    The start

    The first project Tensing started with Learned was renewing the career framework. Based on the Learned skill set, roles are now expressed in skills across 5 skill levels for the first time. Shortly after, the training and launch of Learned followed, with the first formal conversation for creating the Personal Development Plan.

    The result

    In a relatively short time, great results have been achieved. First, there is significant progress in the number of conversations held. In addition to the formal Personal Development Plan conversation, 100% of employees have completed their first three monthly 1-on-1 meetings. There is also more consistency in conversation quality, thanks to Learned's conversation templates.

    Tensing has also switched to quarterly goals instead of annual targets. As a result, 34% more goals have been set than before working with Learned. Goals are now discussed more frequently and achieved faster.
